Chapter 1 Part 1

He screwed up.  He got too cocky.  The interview that was streaming across my modest 24” screen was between the upcoming and very popular rapper, Christian rapper, SE and a lesser known but soon to be very popular interviewer.  We knew it was going to happen, SE got too comfortable and too famous too quickly.  However, only those who followed him from the beginning knew where his popularity arose from.  Actually, now everyone would know where his popularity arose from.  At the moment, the interviewer in his higher pitched tone, dressed in a loose fitting sweater and blue jeans, appearing confident all of a sudden, after largely an interview filled with nervous undertones.  Asked SE the one question that would change his life forever, why do you not curse in your songs?  The answer given by SE would emboldened Christians across the world watching if it were not for the cowardness underlying it.  SE was caught off guard by the question, his eyes shifted, he fidgeted in his seat trying to find a position of comfort. He gave enough reason, enough information without mentioning the words Jesus, Christian, or the likes that the authorities were confident enough to arrest him.  Of course they wouldn’t do it during the interview and SE didn’t realize it during the interview that the song lyrics that peppered his early songs about sacrifice and “ I would rather die than sell my soul to the world” would become reality.  SE walked out the back door of the studio, unaware that he was walking to his new reality, the one he struggled within himself to avoid.  He took a sip from his half-filled water bottle and wearing his signature black hoodie with black hat and into the spotlight.  Yet, this wasn’t the spotlight he was used to.  Sure there were television cameras and microphones.  But they were setup to amuse and satisfy the justice the world demanded.
